Your Worth
By: Kristen McNulty
One day someone saw a glitter of gold and decided gold was a mineral of great beauty and suddenly gold went from being considered a rock, to one of the most precious metals in the world. The same thing happened with you.
You might have been rejected or tossed aside or considered worthless by parents or friends or teachers or peers, but when God created you, He saw just how precious you are and when it came time to put a price tag on your worth, He laid down the most valuable thing in the universe: the life of His own Son.
Maybe you have a hard time believing that because all you can hear in your mind are the lies of worthlessness, but consider this: just because not everyone sees your value, doesn't make you any less valuable. Two kids on a beach might find a snail and throw it back into the word, that very sail that a chef in a restuarant in France might pay hundreds or even thousands of dollars for. Just because one person doesn't value an object or a person, doesn't mean it's any less valuable.
Bible.org has a list that tells us exactly what our identity is in Christ. Listen in as I read part of the list and let it sink in that this is exactly how God sees and values you:
I am a child of God.
But to all who have received him--those who believe in his name--he has given the right to become God's children … (John 1:12).
I am a friend of Jesus.
I no longer call you slaves, because the slave does not understand what his master is doing. But I have called you friends, because I have revealed to you everything I heard from my Father (John 15:15).
As a child of God, I am a fellow heir with Christ.
And if children, then heirs (namely, heirs of God and also fellow heirs with Christ)--if indeed we suffer with him so we may also be glorified with him (Romans 8:17).
I have been accepted by Christ.
Receive one another, then, just as Christ also received you, to God's glory (Romans 15:7).
I have become the righteousness of God in Christ.
God made the one who did not know sin to be sin for us, so that in him we would become the righteousness of God (2 Corinthians 5:21).
I am chosen, holy, and blameless before God.
For he chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world that we may be holy and unblemished in his sight in love (Ephesians 1:4).
I am loved and chosen.
We know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that he has chosen you … (1 Thessalonians 1:4).

God's love for you is relentless and limitless and when He looks at you, He sees you for what you really are: a chosen, beloved daughter or son of the one true King. He loves you and values you, so no matter what other people have said or done to you, know that you truly are worth more than gold!
