You Don't Know When It Ends
By: Kristen McNulty
Every day when we wake up most of us assume we're about to be given another 24 hours to live out, but that assumption is not a guarantee.
The man who passed away last night of a heart attack thought the same thing. As did the teen who got behind the wheel never thinking that journey would lead to an ICU bed.
James 4:14 teaches us,
"How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog--it's here a little while, then it's gone."
Our lives are here a little while, then they are gone. And not one of us knows when that moment they fade out will be.
I certainly don't. But I do have a certainty that takes the fear of that away and it's a certainty I'd love to pass on to you. And that's no matter when my life ends, whether it's due to a car accident at 35 or heart attack at 55 or old age at 90, I know what comes for me next and that's not the end of my life, but only the beginning of it in heaven.
John 3:16 tells us that God so loved you and I that He sent His only Son to die in our place so that death is not out final chapter, but rather the beginning of the story of us being reunited with God in heaven.
Romans 10:9 teaches us that the only barrier between us and being saved a seat in heaven is to believe in our hearts that Jesus is Lord and that He was died and raised from the dead, and to confess with our mouths our sins we need forgiveness from.
It's that simple. You might not know when this life is going to be over, but if you accept why Jesus came and died- for your sins to be forgiven so you can spend eternity with God, you can know that there is no ending for you when death comes calling, only a beautiful beginning!
If you need that assurance of heaven and forgiveness of your sins, pray with me right now.
Lord Jesus,
Thank you for dying for my sins. I believe you bled on the cross for me and were raised from the dead three days later. I ask you to forgive me of my sins and wipe the slate clean. Place your holy spirit in me and help me to live for you on this earth and with you in the one to come. Thank you for this amazing gift, amen.
If you just prayed that prayer with me, you don't have any reason to fear what comes next. Let this words from Ephesians 2:4-7 sink in as we close:
"But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, 5that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!) For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus. So God can point to us in all future ages as examples of the incredible wealth of his grace and kindness toward us, as shown in all he has done for us who are united with Christ Jesus."
Incredible.
