When you think about the faithfulness of God, what comes to mind?
Stories of past mountains you’ve climbed where you were so tired and worn that you couldn’t take another step through your own strength, but then God carried you through His?
Memories of times where there was no way out until an answer from heaven made a way?
Recollections of days or weeks or months when life seemed dark but the light of Christ never stopped illuminating your way?
Stories of God's Faithfulness
We all have stories of when we saw God’s faithfulness come through time and time again. But there is something interesting about our recollections of his faithfulness, we often only seem to notice His faithfulness when we look back. In the middle of the trial we get so clouded by our circumstances that often we don’t notice the difference His hand made until we look back. And it’s only when we look back can we see that never once have we been abandoned, never once have we been discarded to get through this life alone, never once has He not come through with His strength, love, and peace.
The same is going to be true with this trial too. I don’t know the size of the storm you are facing right now, but He does. He created you, He loves you, and there is no place on this earth you can go where you are beyond His reach or His sight.
Never Out Of Reach or Sight
Flipping over to Psalm 139:
"I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence! If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave, you are there. If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans, even there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me. I could ask the darkness to hide me and the light around me to become night- but even in darkness I cannot hide from you. To you the night shines as bright as day. Darkness and light are the same to you." Psalm 139:7-12 NLT
No matter what life is like for you right now, God knows. He's not unaware and He’s not asleep at the wheel. Scripture makes it clear in these verses we just read and so many others that God does not forget about His children and He is a perfect father whose attention we never need to beg for. What you are going through right now is not a news flash to Him either. Picking up a few verses later:
"You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! I can't even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, you are still with me!" Psalm 139:16-18 NLT
Thoughts Beyond Measure
Have you ever considered how God thinks about you so much that those recollections are beyond number? That is truth found in Scripture and nowhere is there a footnote to say you are somehow excluded from that love or attention right now. God knows you and He sees you. That said, life might be hard. You might not like what’s happening in your life right now, I get it, I’ve been there, I am there. But in this place we need to remember God is faithful. He has carried us through time and time again and He’s not going to stop now. So when the load gets heavy or doubt creeps in, recall as many instances as you can of how He has been faithful to you in the past and then remember He hasn’t changed now. Your life is writing a story of His faithfulness and one day you will see it looking back on this very chapter.
In the meantime, let Him be your strength to get through it. You don’t need to carry this alone. As we are taught in Psalm 46:1:
"God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble."
So call out to him right now and ask Him to let His strength carry you and look forward to the day when one day you will look back on this time and see so clearly His faithfulness.
