"You want a change, it's written on your face
You feel alone, a little out of place
You hide away the scars and the mistakes
You've been tired, uninspired
Something's gotta give
Right now
He knows who you are
The light in the dark
He picks up your broken heart
Right now
He's telling the truth
That you will make it through
His love can rescue you
Right now
We've all been there, we're walking down the same road
So don't be scared, you're not out there on your own
Just take a breath, and shut out the madness
Letting go is beautiful
There's so much more just waiting there for you"
This Beautiful Republic- Right Now
Today I have a feeling many of us are hearing those words, but having a hard time believing them. Maybe you're feeling unloved. Maybe you think you've messed up one time too many. Maybe you're feeling alone.
Whatever situation you may find yourself in, you need to know that right now God knows exactly where you are. I don't. I'm recording this in my little house in Timmins, Ontario and I have no idea who's going to hear it or what their lives might look like. But God knows. He knows you. And He knows exactly where you are: physically, spiritually, and emotionally.
He sees past the brave front that you've been putting up. He sees that beyond the laughter that you hide behind. He sees you and He knows exactly what you're feeling right now.
Failure, disappointment, guilt, shame. It's no surprise to Him. But there's good news: God doesn't just see us where we are and leave us there. No, He comes in and lights up where we are.
Over and over again throughout the Bible, God is described as being light. Living in such a dark world, I'm relived to know that. Why? Because no matter how dark our lives or our situations seem, there is always room for God's light to come and illuminate our lives.
Our circumstances may stay the same, but when His spotlight is cast our way, we can see past our present troubles and see the sun that's coming up on the horizon.
Jesus said "I am the light of the world. If any man follows me, he shall not walk in darkness but shall have the light of life."
Did you get what Jesus was saying here? He wasn't saying they will never see darkness, but He was promising that if we follow Him, weren't not going to have to walk in it.
When we follow Christ, His radiance lights up even the darkest paths. And as long as we keep our eyes on Him and His light, the darkness doesn't seem so bad.
It's kind of like what happens when you're in a well lit parking lot. It can be pitch dark outside, but if the store installed enough lights, you have no troubling finding where you parked your car.
So right now, wherever you are and whatever your life may look like, know that you don't have to stay in this darkness any longer. Invite God to take the journey with you through life and then follow Him.
He may lead you in rock sections of trail along the way, but when His light casts before us, we don't get tripped up on the stones, roots, and holes. Instead, we walk next to our Lord and allow Him to be our light and our guide.
