Recently I was going through some new music, considering the songs for possible airplay on MAD. While going through a couple digital submissions, I heard a song that stopped me in my tracks. It's called Daylight by the band Remedy Drive. Here are the lyrics:
Has everything you've counted on
Left you right here with no warning?
Have your dreams become invisible
Wait with me, dear, till the morning
Light will make the night burn out
Hold on, daylight is coming
To break the dawn
Daylight is coming
The brightest stars are falling down
Is hope lost in the black skies?
The darkness must proceed the dawn
Wait with me here, till the sunrise
Wait your night will soon fade out
Hold on, daylight is coming
To break the dawn
Daylight is coming
(Remedy Drive - Daylight)
As I heard those verses blare out over the speakers, I couldn't help but be reminded of God's promise to turn our darkness into light.
For someone who's been standing in the dark for quite some time, it's easy to forget that such a promise exists, but it does.
Isaiah 42:16 "I will lead blind Israel down a new path, guiding them along an unfamiliar way. I will brighten the darkness before them and smooth out the road ahead of them. Yes, I will indeed do these things; I will not forsake them."
For someone sitting in darkness, these words come like a bucket of water to a thirsty soul. Because when your circumstances have blocked out the sun for days, weeks, months, or years, it's easy to believe the lie that things will never change.
But not what the Bible teaches us. God's Word tells us that darkness precedes light. That there is a storm before the calm. That God is there even when it's pitch black and scary. And that one day soon He will turn the lights back on.
Psalm 18:28 "The Lord will light my candle so, that it shall shine full brightly The Lord my God will also make my darkness to be light."
What an amazing promise to hold onto! No matter what darkness is creeping into your life, remember that your dawn is coming. Your day when you wake up to nothing but sun and clear skies a head.
As the song says:
"Hold on, daylight is coming
To break the dawn
Daylight is coming"
